14th August, 2011: Friday at the Island Bar
Here’s a photo of Dan singing “The Young Ones” with the Curs at the Island Bar on Friday night (12th August). An ironic choice of ditty.

This is a solo version of “Here we go again” performed by Dan on the beach in Thailand. The song originally appeared on “Scheming in the Backroom”. Have a listen to a short clip of The Bastards’ version HERE
That’s Dave Green on bass, believe it or not – in 1980, as a member of Sunderland-based band The Monoconics.

A surprise 50th birthday bash for Jacqui, organised by husband Frank Paul (both ex-Lamma-ites – although it has to be said that it’s probably as hard to be an ex Lamma-ite as it is to be an ex-Bastard).
The event took place at The Lounge, Cherngtalay, Phuket on the evening/night of Saturday 18th June. Live music was provided by a miscellany of Bastards, from both the Hong Kong and the Thai chapters of the band. Ewa Wilkinson took a load of video footage of the bands in action. We hope to get some of it posted on YouTube in the not too distant future.
The date : Sunday 21st November 21st 2010.
The venue: Yung Shue Wan Football pitch
The event: Lamma Island Cultural Melting Pot Festival.
The Bastards played an evening set to an enthusiastic home crowd.
The band that day were: Dave Campbell (guitar), Dave Green (bass and backing vocals), Magnus (drums) and Dan James (vocals).
Here’s a YouTube posting of a couple of the songs we did:
On 16 October 2010, Dan, Dave and Mark reworked an old Bastards’ song, “Nowhere left to Hide”.
It was done as part of the soundtrack of “To Whom it May Concern”, a short movie made by Team Lamma United, for the Forty Eight Hour Hong Kong Film Project.
This is the song as posted by Dan on YouTube.
Phil Wright, The Bastards’ original bass player from 1989 till the end of 1993, and currently living in England, sent a load of live footage of the band in the early days.
Here’s three songs we did at the 1993 Wanchai Festival at Southorn Playground. All three would later appear on The Bastards’ first album, “Welcome to the Royal”.
The band that day was:
Guitars – Dave Campbell and Simon Coak
Bass – Phil Wright
Drums – Nige Pike
Vocals – Dan James
Have a look and see what you think – it’s a bloody long time ago!
